Volunteers from Easter, with a little help from a few other congregations, worked 19 shifts on 7 different dates at Feed My Starving Children to pack 3,881 boxes of food. The boxes were loaded into three 40 ft. containers for shipment by sea to Tanzania. The containers have all been shipped.
Container 1 is currently in port in Tanzania awaiting customs clearance.
Container 2 is currently enroute up the east coast of Africa to Tanzania. It is expected to arrive in Tanga February 21.
Container 3 left New York January 23 and is expected to arrive in Durban, SA, on February 19 and in Tanga, Tanzania on March 9.
When all three containers arrive safely in Nyanzwa, Easter and FMSC will have provided a total of 838,296 meals.
In addition, $5,000 was provided for immediate food purchase in Tanzania, and the food was distributed to Nyanzwa and surrounding area early last December. Another $3,000 is being sent for another immediate purchase of food since many Nyanzwans are only eating 1 meal every other day.
$9,000 was sent for purchase of seeds for the next crop. The crop has been planted and so far there is sufficient rainfall to expect a good harvest. The really good news is the Agricultural Project has identified a hybrid corn seed that requires less moisture and matures in 3 months vs. the normal 5 months.
Easter people really rallied to the support of our sister congregation. Close to $78,000 has been contributed to date. Thanks to all who helped with the physical labor and those who contributed so generously. Jesus told us that “… as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren you have done it to me.”
Please continue to pray for the safe arrival of the containers and pray that our brothers and sisters can survive until the food arrives.
