Confirmation

In Confirmation, students explore the Christian faith and take personal ownership of the promises made on their behalf by parents, sponsors and the church at baptism. Easter's confirmation program utilizes:

  • Small group faith discussion
  • Family faith practice
  • Individual spiritual growth and service

Service and Growth

As part of the confirmation program, students are required to complete 40 hours of service and 25 hours of growth prior to their confirmation. See the 2010-11 Confirmation Service and Growth Brochure for details. Download a confirmation service form or growth form.

Mentor Groups

We use mentor groups to support youth and encourage the development of the community of faith. Students in the confirmation program will be assigned an adult mentor. Mentor groups consist of five to six students. Mentors are assigned according to gender: men to boys; women to girls.

Communion

Students are offered First Communion instruction beginning in their 5th grade year. All confirmation students are encouraged to complete first communion instruction by their 9th grade year.

Confirmation Opportunities for Growth and Service (C.O.G.S.)

C.O.G.S. is held one Sunday a month, at Easter by the Lake, September through April. Summer camp confirmation students and mentors are required to attend C.O.G.S. Parents are always invited as well as Wednesday night confirmation students and mentors. The events are excellent service and growth opportunities for all ages. C.O.G.S. is provided specifically to gather all mentor groups on a regular basis. Read more about Upcoming C.O.G.S. events.
If a Medical Information/Releaseform is required for a particular event, you can open this .pdf form, then type your answers, print the form, and bring it back to the office.

We Expect...

  • Families to worship regularly, and parents to support their child's faith development in the home.
  • Parents to model the Christian faith for their children to the best of their ability.
  • Students to work up to their God-given ability, and to be discerning of their spiritual gifts in how they can "grow in faith and carry on the work of Jesus Christ."
  • Attend class sessions and all retreats. If conflicts with the confirmation program arise, the pastoral staff and mentors need to be informed

Desired Outcomes of the Easter
Youth and Family Ministry

The mission of Easter church is to grow in faith and carry on the work of Jesus Christ. The following are guiding principles to help us achieve Easter’s mission.
  • Youth know that they are a vital part of the church and that it is a loving, safe, and comfortable community.
  • Youth know the love and grace of Jesus Christ and can tell the story of Jesus to others.
  • Youth are able to connect in faith-based relationships with other youth.
  • Each student can identify a significant faith mentor in their life.
  • Each young person has a faith transforming (life-changing) experience at Easter.
  • Students discover their God-given talents and interests to love and serve others.
  • Empower families to practice faith in the home (devotion, service prayer, conversation).
